l have sang this song for over 40 years. In the Bretthren Assemblies and Baptist Church now. Tomorrow l am using the hymn in my discipleship class at the university. We are looking at assurance of salvation. This is great hymn. Thanks so much. l love the song. l have memorised all the stanzas. Blessings 🎉😂

Thankyou for the story behind this very old hymn. It was only in the last week when I was listening to a podcast of my pastor on the Trinity that the first line of the hymn came back to me. I do recall the tune being a bit of a dirge. I googled for the rest of the lyrics. What a very beautiful poem/hymn. Your singing of the hymn was uplifting and worshipful. (😂not at all “dirgy” ) Your singing is gifted. I look forward to hearing more.

Wow. I just sand this song Sunday,at church. I jas no clue about the rest of the verses! The verses I had it reminded me of The Lord's Sovereignty. Essential to remember in the forefront of my mind.

I share the organ duties at church and it is indeed sad that it is never chosen. It will always be dear to me and the next time I play I shall certainly play it as a prelude.

What a compilation of my favourite hymns of all time!! It kept getting better & better!!! One video I shall be returning to again & again.

Starting again! I first learned this Hymn in a C of E primary School at the age of five. I last heard it 20 years ago at my aunt's funeral. We certainly sang the verse the Rich man in his castle the poor man at his gate, and auto I am 81 I remember the words as though yesterday.

This was one of my mother's favorite hymns. I often sing it when I'm full of joy or when I need joy. It works well in both circumstances. Such a powerful anointing in this song!

Thenk you for this study and performance Luke...As you know, your name means light. I love the poetry in the lyrics of this hymn. I love the theme of light that floods it. I began studying this hymn yesterday and want to continue to study the author, his life and The Free Church of Scotland. Yesterday I watched a RUclips video of this song being sung in a cathedral. And then I saw that the British Royal Family were there worshipping and singing! Which reminded me to pray for them. King Charles was there and Prince William and his family. So glad that you mentioned that this song was sung at Queen Elizabeth's sixtieth birthday. Significant for me became my sixtieth birthday is in two weeks. 😂😊😊 Your presentation of this hymn was very lovely. You really "communicated" the hymn. Flowing from your heart and shaken free from any stiffness that often hymns have taken on over years of unlistening use... Bless God and thank you, brother.

As a child in Primary School we were taught a song all about the Titanic sinking and how the band on board played, "Nearer My God to Thee" and I always thought about those brave men who sacrificed right up to the very end, to play and comfort those who were perishing, knowing that they would perish, too. It has always been a very poignant and haunting song. The words, the melody and the association with the Titanic make it so, for me. Good job singing it. I have only recently come across your channel and I am enjoying some of your older videos. Thank you so much. Love to you and yours from Australia.

Thank you so much for your wonderful, heart-felt performance of this song. I've only known of this song for a few years. I am sad that this poor fellow fell away from his faith in the Lord, but who knows, maybe at the end of his life, he turned his heart back to Jesus. I like to think so.

After 9/11 our church had a special community service and "A Mighty Fortress is Our God" was the first and last hymn we sang. It was very moving.

No One Like You plus Like the deer are two of my favourite songs over the years especially the last one. Also enjoy Psalm 46 with Luther's, A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing!! As this song always cements my faith in God as The Mighty God who NEVER fails me - no matter what happens!! I wrote that hymn out & stuck it in my bible to remind me when I read that psalm so that I can sing along to it.

Absolutely : This was a very well sung practically all the time in every church I attended . It is such a victory song because it is so true. It was #10 in our song book. So we only had to say #10 and that was enough to get us going .

I love this beautiful hymn, but most churches are not singing the hymns any more and this is really sad. This hymn touches my heart and it makes me cry when I sing it. These hymns draw me closer to my Lord and they bring great joy to my heart!!
